AUTISM INSURANCE REFORM
3/3/2010
The effort to bring autism insurance reform to the State of Maryland is moving forward in 2010! Delegate Kirill Reznik has once again introduced legislation that would require health plans to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder. House Bill 1091 has been assigned to the Health and Government Operations (HGO) Committee, where the first hearing will take place next Thursday, March 11th at 1:00 pm. For the HB 1090 to pass, it is critical that members of the HGO Committe and members of the House hear from their constituents before March 11 to educate them about the challenges that can accompany an autism diagnosis. The message should be simple but strong: Autism is treatable. Insurance should cover treatment.
