Webinar attendees will come to understand what is involved in the planning process for a special needs family and the importance of preserving your loved one’s financial security and quality of life.
Presented by Elville and Associates’ Managing Principal and Lead Attorney Stephen R. Elville, this webinar is a broad reaching discussion about planning for their loved one with special needs.
The key issues of understanding the role of public benefits, making decisions about the future, Maryland ABLE, and using estate planning and trusts to protect assets will be discussed along with the types of special needs trusts and their specific purposes (along with who the decision makers and beneficiaries can be in these trusts). Also, to be touched upon will be the “planning team concept” — how your planning team (attorney, financial advisor, CPA) — can work together to help provide your family peace of mind during the special needs planning process.
To receive your personal link to attend ahead of time, please click here. Should you have questions ahead of time, please contact Community Relations Director Jeff Stauffer at 443-216-9626 x117.
Open to clients, advisors and the general public. For Certified Financial Planners, CPAs, and other professionals 1.5 continuing education hours will be available for attending this presentation. We look forward to hosting you!

What is “adequate” and “good enough” parenting? This FREE webinar will explore what those terms mean and how it pertains to parents living with IDD. Research shows that up to 80% of all parents with IDD lose custody of their child(ren). We will explore why that number is so high. Is it due to actual deficits or system bias? We will look at potential biases in our own work and rethink what are reasonable and realistic expectations. We welcome parents with disabilities, families and friends of individuals with disabilities, and professionals.
Presented by Susan “Sue” Jones, who for 35+ years has specialized in supporting parents with intellectual challenges. She is one of the principal founders and former Co-President of The Association for Successful Parenting and is currently a Senior Board Member. Susan has recently retired from being the Department Director of the Family and Youth Services Department for The United Arc of Turners Falls MA, though she is continuing to provide consultation . She directed the Positive Parenting Program, which provides comprehensive services to parents with learning differences through in-home parent training, instructional supervised supervisions, parent educational and support groups, and Transitional Support Housing and the Caregiver program. Susan has conducted over 30+ years of training on working with parents living with intellectual disabilities regionally, nationally, and internationally. Susan has contributed to several projects in the field, including working with Leigh Ann Davis of The Arc of United States, to develop a curriculum for working with parents living with ID and contributing to the Nation Council on Disability report “Rocking the Cradle: Ensuring the Rights of Parents with Disabilities and Their Children”.

Conversations around LGBTQ+ inclusive spaces are becoming increasingly critical when supporting neurodiverse populations and individuals with intellectual and emotional disabilities. Historically, the communities have been addressed separately with the assumption of little overlap or impact, yet a growing body of research demonstrates the need for LGBTQ+ inclusive practices that are accessible and affirming for individuals with disabilities. This webinar will examine the intersections of gender, sexuality, and disability in school, clinical, and community based settings, and identify ways to make spaces and programs accessible and affirming for neurodiverse youth and young adults.

We all need a friend, and Lisa is instantly drawn to the perfectly imperfect teddy bear on display at the department store. If only she can convince her stressed-out mother to buy Corduroy for her! Meanwhile, Corduroy is determined to find his missing button and become worthy of going to a real home. After the store has closed, he goes on a hilariously destructive search--with the Night Watchman in comical pursuit. Full of mischief and clowning, this story of unconditional love captures both the humanity and the merriment of the holiday season.

Join Elville and Associates as we welcome back guest presenter Eric Jorgensen, a Special Needs Advisor with Special Needs Navigator who provides a complete timeline overview of what families and the professionals they work with can expect from the original diagnosis until the child survives the parents. Eric will highlight key times when specific planning items such as completing an estate plan, getting life insurance, or applying for SSI should be completed. He will also discuss potentially lesser-known resources such as Low Intensity Support Services and Pre-Employment Transition Services.
Key takeaways include:
– Life insurance, ABLE accounts and Special Needs Trusts are critical tools, but not the plan
– Don’t wait until your child is in the last year of school to think about his or her transition
– You are not applying for benefits for you — delaying because it doesn’t seem worth the effort could be sabotaging your child
