The decision to pursue guardianship -- to obtain the legal authority to make decisions for another person -- is one that has many intricacies to it and should not be taken lightly. There are also many alternatives to guardianship to consider as well, which is why speaking with a qualified attorney is extremely important during the decision making process and throughout the guardianship proceeding.

This webinar will define pediatric feeding disorders (PFDs) and provide useful feeding strategies to support children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in food exploration. Attendees will learn about the symptoms, impacted areas, and presentation of PFDs in autistic children. The speaker will provide practical strategies to add social, positive responsiveness and increase autistic children's confidence during mealtimes.

Employment Supports for Transition-Aged Autistic Youth

Transition-aged autistic youth face numerous barriers to employment as they exit the school system. Teaching both employment and social skills in real work settings is key to a successful transition into the workforce. With more than 10 years of experience implementing internship programs for autistic students with extensive support needs, we will share specific examples of supports implemented in the workplace to assist individuals in obtaining and maintaining community integrated employment.

Echolalia and Autism: Its Function and Expanding Self-Generated Language

Deborah Crawford, MS, CCC-SLP will present "Echolalia and Autism: Understanding Its Function and Expanding Self-Generated Language" on Thursday, December 2, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. EST as part of the CARD Fall Training Series.
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may often engage in echolalia. This can present as repeating what someone has said or even lines from television shows and movies. Although it may seem meaningless, research has shown that echolalia is a purposeful function of communication. This training will discuss how children with ASD learn language and dive into the reasoning behind their usage of echolalia. The speaker will provide strategies for teaching and expanding the language of children with ASD while exploring self-generated language.
By the end of the training, attendees will be able to:

Identify communicative functions of echolalia
