he center opens early for these events designed for families with kids, teens, and adults with sensory processing differences, autism spectrum disorder, or developmental disabilities. Enjoy activities led by Howard County Park Rangers, Heritage staff and Robinson Nature Center educators. Families can also explore the exhibits (lights/sounds adjusted), Discovery Room, nature trails, outdoor NaturePlace and a themed-sensory pathway. Planetarium open between 11am and noon. Sensory alert maps, sensory backpacks and quiet areas available.
Autism Navigator is collaborating with Autism Science Foundation to bring this webinar series to you. This webinar will help you learn about our How-To Guide for Families online course and ways you can use this resource to engage your child in activities you’re already doing every day and help develop your child’s social communication skills.
Each webinar will cover the following agenda:

How to support your child’s learning in everyday activities
How Autism Navigator and Baby Navigator online resources can help each family
We will feature new content and videos each webinar to focus our conversation about how to actively engage your child using evidence-based strategies in everyday activities. We will also have featured guests regularly that will be announced.
In this group, you will have the chance to speak with others who communicate and see the world like you do about the challenges that arise in neurodiverse relationships. Not only are coping strategies and tools presented, they are practiced in the meetings to help group members improve their relationship skills.

Discussions are focused on learning tools and coping strategies for particular issues that arise because of the neurological differences between partners.

Supporting Paraprofessionals to Implement Functional Communication Training to Address Challenging Behavior

Paraprofessionals play an important role in assisting educators to support students with autism spectrum disorder, including delivering behavioral supports to those students who engage in persistent challenging behavior. However, paraprofessionals often are inadequately prepared for their role and have received little or no training to address student challenging behavior. During this webinar, we will present findings and implications from a study examining the effects of teacher-delivered training on paraprofessional implementation of an evidence-based practice, functional communication training, for students with autism spectrum disorder who have complex communication needs. In addition, we will offer attendees with practical guidelines for supervising and training paraprofessionals to deliver behavioral supports.
