PFA Tips: Financial Things Every Parent Should Know
Review your child’s assets now in preparation for applying for public funding or insurance programs. (SSI, Autism Waiver, Medical Assistance, MCHP). A person may not have more than $2000 in assets to be eligible for SSI. Create a plan for “asset development” – savings, investment, etc. Even very small amounts of money put into an asset development plan will assist with future expenses. There are tools for protecting assets in excess of $2,000 (limit for SSI).
