Increasing Flexibility and Problem Solving in Children with ASD

This workshop will provide an overview of behavioral and cognitive flexibility and the importance of focusing on these areas with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Often students with ASD adhere to fixed routines, rote repetitive responding or appear to have limited repertoires of responses. Flexibility and language will be discussed, and specific skills will be addressed. Strategies for increasing flexibility in students with ASD will also be presented. This workshop will highlight the importance
of problem solving and generating multiple solutions as well.
This live webinar will focus on the assessment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children. It will address the epidemiology, racial, cultural, and socioeconomic implications. Autism Spectrum Disorders: Diagnosis and First Steps with Dr. Chana Richter

Dr. Chana Richter is a pediatrician at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders at Kennedy Krieger Institute, primarily focusing on new diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Her current focus is bridging the gap to diagnosis of autism and initiation of supportive treatment, as well as identifying barriers to diagnosis. Dr. Richter received her Bachelors in Science from Touro University/Lander College of Arts and Sciences, and completed her Masters in Education and Special Education through Touro as well.
