Dating While Neurodiverse for Adults 18+
Building friendships and sharing special moments with a bestie is amazing...but what happens when we want something more? How do we go about doing this? How do we even know what we want? How do we go about this safely?
Join us for an 8-week class for neurodiverse adults ages 18+ where we talk about it all! We'll cover everything from the social nuances of dating and navigating relationships to sexual education, consent, and appropriate ways to communicate. This will be a judgment-free zone where neurodiverse individuals can share their anxieties and fears while asking the questions some have been too embarrassed to ask.
Class will be held at Barrier-Free's Life Skills & Social Studio - 7520 Main St #103 Sykesville, MD 21784. Class tuition is $80. We offer a two-class trial period, details at the link!

Supporting Paraprofessionals to Implement Functional Communication Training to Address Challenging Behavior–
Supporting Paraprofessionals to Implement Functional Communication Training to Address Challenging Behavior
Presented by Virginia Walker, PhD, BCBA-D, and Megan Carpenter, M.Ed.Paraprofessionals play an important role in assisting educators to support students with autism spectrum disorder, including delivering behavioral supports to those students who engage in persistent challenging behavior. However, paraprofessionals often are inadequately prepared for their role and have received little or no training to address student challenging behavior. During this webinar, we will present findings and implications from a study examining the effects of teacher-delivered training on paraprofessional implementation of an evidence-based practice, functional communication training, for students with autism spectrum disorder who have complex communication needs. In addition, we will offer attendees with practical guidelines for supervising and training paraprofessionals to deliver behavioral supports.Contact Name : OAR

Tailoring, Targeting, And Addressing What Matters: Supporting People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Who are Living With Dementia
This presentation will discuss the state of dementia care research and its implications for supporting people with intellectual disabilities who are living with dementia. Drawing upon tested efficacious interventions, specific interventions will be discussed both in terms of their outcomes as well as their essential elements and treatment principles that can be applied to working with people with intellectual disabilities living with dementia. Interventions will be shared that view the individual within their living context and address modifiable factors that may be contributing to care challenges. Interventions assume a person-centric and tailored approach and address the needs of the person as well as their care partners to help support quality of life.

Sensory Sundays at the B&O Railroad Museum–
Sensory Sundays at the B&O Railroad Museum
Sensory Sundays at the B&O Railroad Museum are designed to create an inclusive and safe atmosphere where all visitors are welcome and supported. In order to accommodate for members of the community who identify as neurodiverse, this program promotes sensory awareness throughout the museum by altering the physical environment as appropriate. Some examples of these changes include: decreased lighting and surround sound, signage communicating the location of exhibits with sounds effects, and temporary “quiet” or “calming” zones. These zones will provide a space dedicated to decreased sensory exposure as well as sensory kits equipped with resources for visitors who need an opportunity to process their emotions and experiences. Throughout the day, visitors will be encouraged to participant in B&O Railroad Museum activities, such as a sensory-friendly train ride on the Mile One Express, a kids craft, and a sensory-friendly tour led by one of our trained staff members. There will also be an opportunity for parents to access resources provided by organizations within the community who support families with special needs children. Overall, Sensory Sundays will continue to establish the B&O Railroad Museum as a location dedicated to the support and inclusion of the neurodiverse community.
