There are so many things to figure out this year; from explaining to your child how visiting with Santa won’t happen, to deciding how to safely have family gatherings, to trying to keep fun traditions, and even to managing money.

Workshop 1: Special Education Services in a Remote & Hybrid World - Questions to AskWhat this series will address:
Why are IEP meetings often uncomfortable, awkward, and stiff? Educators and families all have a common goal -- to support the development of the child. Yet, educators often feel confused that families act like reluctant participants who are just fulfilling a requirement. And families often feel that they're viewed as intruders, whose insights and dreams for their child don't count.
In this virtual workshop series, Dr. Amy Pleet-Odle will explain perspectives of both families and educators and suggest questions families should ask to make the IEP process a productive experience for all. ABC's of Managing Challenging BehaviorJoin Catherine Judkins, M.Ed.,BCBA, LBA and Clinical Director at Verbal Beginnings for this presentation that reviews common reasons challenging behaviors (tantrums, whining, aggression) may occur. Additionally, strategies that parents can use to address these behaviors at home will be covered.

Saturday Night AliveParticipants are invited to meet online in September for our virtual SNA event via Zoom! As usual, there will be arts and crafts, dance, an optional Bible lesson, music, and MORE!

Yoga for Children, Teens & Adults with AutismEnjoy our weekly FREE Yoga Classes with instructors from the Yoga Center of Columbia. These classes are made possible through the generosity of The Hussman Foundation. Registration is required.
Our yoga participation procedures have changed! We will no longer post the videoconference login to the calendar listing on HCAS’s website. Please read the following to learn about our new procedure to ensure a safe and pleasant virtual experience for all for these weekly classes hosted by the Yoga Center of Columbia from 3:30-4:30pm on Saturdays.
Effective July 15, 2020, we are requiring participants and parents/guardians to pre-register with HCAS. This is a one-time registration. Once registered, you will be added to the list to receive, by e-mail, the videoconference login and password for any future yoga classes. You will receive this information directly from the yoga instructors before each Saturday class. You may request to unsubscribe from the list at any time.

Each class will open about 10 minutes early for participants to visit with one another. Please login at least a few minutes early to get admitted. Instructors will close the class to late arrivals promptly at 3:30pm so that instruction can begin on time and proceed without interruption. Looking to connect and socialize with peers? join us for Get Social!
For individuals, ages 16 and up, with autism or other disabilities.
A program of games and facilitated social engagement over Zoom.
Come prepared to interact. Familiarity with using a keyboard and microphone to chat by videoconference is helpful.
A 30-min orientation to learn videoconferencing tips will be offered before the first session.Weekly Themes and Spirit Days
December 23 - Festive Hat Day – Get in the spirit of the season with a winter themed hat
December 30 - Pajama Day - Stay cozy today in your pajamas and bring a warm beverage if you like!
FREE but registration IS required to receive the Zoom login for this weekly social.
