Roots and Wings: Preparing Your Child and YOU for Life After High School Webinar

The Special Education Resource Center will offer a 90-minute webinar open to all BCPS parents and employees. A webinar for parents who are considering college for their child with a disability. It will offer academic, social/emotional, and self-advocacy strategies that parents may use in supporting the successful transition of students with disabilities from high school to college. Webinar presented by Robyn McCray, LCSW-C, Associate Director Disability Support Services, Towson University.
All parent trainings are free and brought to you by the Baltimore County Public Schools Special Education Resource Center!

The Importance of Employment Experiences for Youth in Transition

Shimul Gajjar, M.Ed. will present "The Importance of Employment Experiences for Youth in Transition" on Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. EST as part of the CARD Fall Training Series. The importance of transition planning for special education students and why early work experiences for adolescents with disabilities are pivotal to better outcomes will be discussed. The speaker will also provide insight on how communities can create early work opportunities.
By the end of the training, attendees will be able to:
Describe the benefits of and skills learned by youth with disabilities through employment
Understand how to support students with disabilities in achieving early work experiences
Identify different types of work experiences
Education professionals, healthcare professionals, related service providers, family members and community members are all invited to attend.
Supporting Parents at the Time of Their Child’s Disability Diagnosis and Beyond: Practical Strategies for Healthcare Providers

Communicating a child’s disability diagnosis to a parent can be stressful for care providers, as the diagnosis can have a profound impact on both child and parent health outcomes. Health care providers who adapt evidence-supported diagnosis delivery protocols and culturally responsive care can better support parents at the time of their child’s initial disability diagnosis.
