First Responder Training
This training provides law enforcement and first responders with “scenario-based” instruction with practical application in the field. Pathfinders provides a balance of factual information and practical tips and strategies, along with personal stories that both entertain and provoke thoughtful consideration. Our curriculum focuses on functional ability (rather than specific diagnosis) that incorporates the most prominent developmental disabilities law enforcement and first responders may encounter. The program addresses how to identify disabilities and their characteristics and make necessary accommodations.
Our law enforcement training program is certified by the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission (MPCTC) for police entry-level and in-service, and corrections entry-level and in-service. (Click on the brochure for the certification numbers.) Our Fire/EMS training offers Miemss/EMS Continuing Education Credit Hours.
The Pathfinders’ First Responder Training Team consists of self advocates, a lead Pathfinders’ staff trainer, current law enforcement, and a former firefighter/EMS.
Our curriculum team consists of Pathfinders’ staff, a respected neuropsychologist, a Maryland Capitol Police Officer, a Harford County Sheriff’s officer, and two retired officers. Our lead staff trainer is a certified police instructor through MPCTC and is CIT certified through Montgomery County Police.
