For students with high functioning Autism; Asperger's Syndrome and other learning challenges often the hardest part of being a kid is making and keeping friends. For families; a child's inability to manage social situations can make family gatherings; vacations or even a simple trip to the grocery store a challenge. Parents are often frustrated they cannot help their child navigate the world of friendship successfully. The good news is that social skills can be taught. By utilizing a sequential skills based approach students with high functioning Autism; Asperger's Syndrome and other learning challenges can master the skills needed to keep and maintain friendships. these skills are critical; not just for friendships but for collaborative learning the classrooms and eventually in the world of work.This program is designed to assist children with developing the skills they need to be successful through a coaching approach. Just like learning a sport; social skills coaching allows students to practice the smaller skills needed to be successful as they each become linked into the more complex "social game". The facilitators provide a gentle; caring; safe environment where each child can improve his/her skills.
