New Beginnings, a program within Verbal Beginnings, offers diagnostic services by a licensed psychologist to assess for Autism Spectrum Disorder for children aged 18 months and up. The evaluation is generally composed of tasks that measure intellectual, language, social-emotional, behavioral, and adaptive functioning. Moreover, the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), considered to be the “gold standard” test in assessing for Autism Spectrum Disorder, is administered. Our diagnostic process consists of three meetings with our licensed psychologist across 2 or 3 days. The first meeting is a 1-hour parent interview, followed by a 2-hour assessment of with the child. At least one week is needed to evaluate assessment results and compile a report in order to provide diagnosis and recommendations. The last meeting is a 1-hour recommendation meeting for parents.
