The Forbush School at Oakmont provides special education and related services to children ages 12-21 with autism; pervasive developmental disorder (PDD); developmental delays in one or more areas; severe behavioral problems; multiple learning problems; and other related disorders. The school serves up to 24 students with 4 classrooms.After a period of evaluation; individualized education programs (IEP's) are developed to meet each child's specific needs. Skills are taught in highly structured settings and program components include: discrete trial; direct instruction; play based instruction; motor skill development and sensory integration strategies; natural aided language stimulation; community based instruction; and positive behavioral support.Professional staff includes certified teachers; teaching assistants; 1:1 instructional aides; a licensed speech and language pathologist; a licensed occupational therapist; a licensed psychologist; and behavioral support staff.The Forbush School at Oakmont is approved as a Type I; 12 month program by the Maryland State Department of Education.
