FUNDING FOCUS: SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT

“What I Wish” is an annual campaign where parents, caregivers, teachers, and/or relatives submit custom device “wishes” for children with developmental or cognitive challenges (ages 2-21).  Requests are accepted in early spring of each year. Even if you have missed the spring deadline date, submit your request anyway as we will consider requests year-round on a case by case basis.   Once requests are approved for scope and safety, 1-3 families receive their requests, at no charge – Yes, no charge!  For all other requests, families can still have their wishes granted for a small project fee – far below market price.  For families with income challenges, we work with the families to achieve their goals. Examples:  specialized beds, custom communication device holders, unique bikes & scooters, specialized sporting equipment and more.  Volunteer engineers, OTs, & PTs design according to the child's needs.  

We are a therapeutic company that offers ABA, Speech and language pathology, and Occupational therapies. We accept Maryland medicaid and most commercial insurances.  We offer programs focusing on independent living, social, and financial skills.  Our office accepts children ages 2-17 years old.

The Janet and Frank Kelly Autism Center at The Children's Guild utilizes the TEACCH approach to educate our students. Students in grades K-12 are eligible. The autism program offers: an integrated music and arts program; character education; sensory integration; pre-vocational and vocational training;transition services; enriched physical environment. Related services included psychiatry; speech therapy; occupational therapy; counseling/social skills training.

The Jefferson School at Finan Center is a nonpublic general and special education day school located in Cumberland, Maryland. We provide year-round educational, vocational, and daily living services to students ages five to 21 with multiple disabilities, primarily autism spectrum disorder, emotional disabilities, and related disorders. From the moment you enter The Jefferson School at Finan Center, you are greeted by our students’ amazing artwork, and can feel the connections being made each day between our staff and students as they interact with each other in classes, during therapeutic activities, and all throughout the school day. Our experienced, compassionate team of administrators, certified teachers, assistant behavior specialists, social workers, therapists, transition services coordinators, and trained educational assistants understand that every child deserves individualized instruction and support. Through our robust curriculum, each program helps students meet their educational goals and prepares them for life beyond the classroom.
