Having IEP team meetings facilitated by an independent; trained "facilitator" is rapidly becoming a popular means for parents and school personnel to reach agreement in the educational decision making process for students needing or suspected of needing special education services. The independent facilitator is a trained volunteer from a community mediation center; generally located in the jurisdiction where the student attends school; or in another community close to where the student attends school. The independent facilitator has completed a 50-hour training course in mediation skills; has experience mediating a variety of disputes; and has completed a 3-day training in IEP Team Meeting Facilitation. The independent facilitator is not a member of the IEP team and does not have a relationship with the school or the parents; other than to assist in the meeting. The independent facilitator remains neutral and focuses on the process while the team makes the decisions. There is no cost; to the parent or the school; tohave an independent facilitator assist in the IEP process.

Child Find services are designed to provide children between the ages of three and five years of age with disabilities with services to enhance their developmental functioning.  Services are provided in the least restrictive environment.  This can include home and community settings as well as in school-based settings.

The Anne Arundel County Public Schools Birth to Five Programs provide free diagnostic and intervention services for residents of Anne Arundel County.  These services are provided to all children who are demonstrating qualifying delays or disabilities for educational services.  The child and family centered services are guided by jointly created Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) or Individualized Education Plans (IEP).  These plans are created by teams of parents, educators and service providers.  The services provided can be directed at any area of development and are delivered in diverse modalities to ensure the greatest level of support for children and families.  It would be our pleasure to support you and your child in their development to give them the best chance possible for academic success later in life.  For more information about the services your child may be eligible for, please click the following links to Community Based Services (CBS) and Early Childhood Intervention (ECI)
