The High Road School of Baltimore County is a nonpublic education program designed specifically to meet the individualized academic, behavioral, and therapeutic needs of students requiring special education services. Our highly structured program serves students in grades 2–12 (aged 7 to 21) with emotional/behavioral disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, and learning disabilities, as well as other disabilities under IDEA. Students are referred to our program by local school systems (i.e., Baltimore County, Baltimore City, and Anne Arundel County Public Schools).Students attending the High Road School of Baltimore County work toward transitioning back to a less restrictive environment and/or pursuing a Maryland high school diploma or Certificate of Completion.The High Road School of Baltimore County seeks to build student confidence and competence through personalized attention and instruction, as well as to prepare our students to be independent, successful adults. We achieve these goals through the three main components of our specialized model: Academics, Behavior Interventions/Counseling, and Transition Services.Our academic component focuses on individualized instruction based on student needs and the county curriculum. Students receive instruction in small-group and one-to-one settings, with time for independent work and computer-assisted instruction. Our behavioral/counseling component features a school-wide behavior management system with built-in incentives and rewards for positive behavior, including field trips, participation on sports teams, and weekly arts and crafts activities. Students have access to their school social worker outside of scheduled services as needed. Our transition programming incorporates functional life skills as well as career awareness and readiness skills. Many of our students exit the program with referrals to job resources in the community through programs like DORS (Division of Rehabilitative Services).The High Road School of Baltimore County offers a wide array of services for students, including certified special education teachers, a reading specialist, staff trained in crisis intervention, school social workers, in-home and/or family therapy, a school psychiatrist, speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. The school also provides Maryland High School Assessment and Bridge Plan preparation.High Road students have the option to participate in a high-interest, self-directed classroom that focuses on career preparation, and they are given the opportunity to take part in several community service projects offered throughout the year, such as Adopt-A-Road, volunteering at soup kitchens, and participating in a recycling program. We have athletic teams that compete in football and basketball, and an academic team that competes with other High Road Schools in the region. Furthermore, our students enjoy additional extracurricular activities, like our region wide Fine Arts Festival, where students display a variety of talents, from drawing to performance art.Parental involvement is a critical part of our education program, and parents are encouraged to contact the school at any time. High Road staff contact parents/guardians on a weekly basis to discuss student progress and address any family concerns or topics of interest. We also send out a monthly newsletter to parents to keep them apprised of all notable events at the High Road School of Baltimore County.

The High Road School of Cecil County is a Type I educational program serving the instructional and behavioral needs of adolescents in a supportive and structured environment. The program is designed to focus on personalized academic and behavioral goals so students may return to a less restrictive setting as quickly as possible. The goals of the program are as follows:To provide each student with the academic and social skills necessary to be successful in school, at home, and in the communityTo prepare students to return to a less restrictive school settingTo prepare students for Maryland State testing programsTo provide students with consistent and structured tutorials designed to prevent regression and produce both academic and behavioral gainsTo provide students with an array of cultural and recreational experiencesTo provide students with the opportunity to increase their knowledge of the history of MarylandThe High Road School of Cecil County offers a graded program for both boys and girls aged 11 to 21 in grades 6–12. Classes are small (no more than nine students to one teacher and teaching assistant), ensuring that personalized instruction is provided to each student.In addition to primarily serving students with behavioral problems and serious emotional difficulties, the High Road School provides services for students who also have been diagnosed with specific learning disabilities, communication disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, intellectual limitations, and other health impairments. Students are referred to the High Road School through the local school systems (i.e., Cecil County Public Schools and surrounding jurisdictions) and are enrolled, on average, for one school year. Students may be eligible for the program regardless of their current living situation (e.g., parents' home, foster care, or Alternative Living Unit).A personalized educational program is developed for each student. The program utilizes the Cecil County Public School System curriculum for grades 6–12, operating Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The educational program focuses on academic instruction in English, math, science, social studies, and career training. The morning is devoted to academic instruction through a variety of tutorials, and the afternoon incorporates academic and recreational activities, including field trips. Additionally, when students are ready, they receive school-to-work training in the community. A strong behavioral management system is also implemented throughout the school, which emphasizes the development of appropriate behaviors necessary for scholastic and social success.To supplement the regular 10-month school year, our school offers an Extended School Year (ESY) program that provides academic and behavioral support through subject-area tutorials in the summer months as well. Recreational and cultural experiences are provided in the form of half-day field trips, many of which relate to the culture and history of the State of Maryland.We prioritize family involvement at the High Road School of Cecil County, and parents are always encouraged to visit the school at any time. The program is designed to focus on personalized academic and behavioral goals so students may return to a less restrictive setting as quickly as possible. Students are referred to the program through local school systems (i.e., Cecil County Public Schools and Harford County Public Schools); and students may be eligible for the program regardless of their current living situation (parents' home, foster care, Alternative Living Unit, etc.).A personalized educational program is developed for each student, utilizing the appropriate curriculum from 1st through 12th grades. The High Road School follows the Cecil County Public School calendar, open 180 days per year with student instruction from 9:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The educational program focuses on academic instruction in English, math, science, social studies, and career training. The High Road School is approved by MSDE and is therefore able to offer all courses students need to graduate. The morning is devoted to academic instruction through various forms of tutorials, and the afternoon incorporates academic and recreational activities, including field trips.
