The Low Intensity Support Program (LISS) is flexible to meet the needs of the individual or family. The program is designed to improve an individual or family’s quality of life, increase or maintain independence, and participate in their communities. The LISS program uses an automated system called the Random Selection Process to select individuals who may be eligible for funding, granting up to $2000 for services and items to address their needs.The use of a Random Selection Process promotes equality and access for everyone. The process includes an application, selection, eligibility determination, and the procurement of eligible items and services. The system is indiscriminate; it does not consider the identity or any other personal aspect of the applicants. The DDA distributes LISS funding twice during the fiscal year with applications accepted during Round 1 and Round 2.

The Lower Shore Autism Community (LSAC) planning group includes two mental health professionals, a nonprofit executive, a university professor and two parents of individuals on the Spectrum. The group has been meeting regularly for several months to help build an organization that will advocate for families with members on the spectrum, help provide support and mutual assistance and connect families with resources and information. There are fewer resources here on the Lower Shore but the needs of families for information, support, clinical and social care, transportation and other needs are just as urgent.

The Lower Shore Child Care Resource Center is a non-profit agency that works with parents, child care providers, early educators, businesses and community organizations to help promote the availability of quality child care services in Somerset, Worcester and Wicomico counties.LSCCRC helps child care providers, caring for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children by providing high quality training, program resources and technical assistance. The Lower Shore Child Care Resource Center works with all families and providers on the lower shore regardless of income.

We will address emotional and behavioral concerns and will train all those involved in the child's care how to address these areas as well.Early intervention is designed to prevent future problems and help prepare young children for school. We believe if a child isn’t emotionally or socially ready for school, he or she may not be capable of academic success.Parents and/or child care providers are invited to contact LSEIP with concerns about a child’s behavior. The LSEIP Team will assess the child at child care and at home to identify troubling behaviors and possible environmental concerns. The LSEIP Team will provide brief intervention strategies for use at home and at child care, education and information on early childhood development and mental health issues, and community referrals for continued support, as needed.LSEIP is part of Salisbury University’s Lower Shore Child Care Resource Center, located at Suite 500, East Campus Complex, Salisbury University, Salisbury, MD 21801.
