Kennedy Krieger’s Physically Challenged Sports Program provides competitive and recreational programs for children with varying degrees of physical abilities. The programs incorporate opportunities for participants to learn sports to: practice and develop skills independently; use learned skills during leisure time; grow socially/emotionally and practice problem solving. Programs are tailored to the unique needs of each child and family.Activities are held on a weekly basis on the grounds of the Greenspring Campus of Kennedy Krieger Institute. Off-site programming may include participation in local; regional; national and international athletic competitions. Special activity camps in handcycling; bicycling and sled hockey are held on campus or at local university/recreational facilities.

Pilcrow Advisors provides expert placement guidance tailored to a client’s specific academic, social, emotional, behavioral and psychiatric needs.  Our expertise include placements for clients between the ages of 8-35 who have not found success in local treatment and school settings and are in need of solutions outside of the traditional options with which they are familiar.  Pilcrow Advisors works with clients with the following presenting challenges: Mood Disorders, Academic Underachievement, School Refusal, Lack of Motivation, OCD, ODD, Disordered Eating, Poor Self-Esteem, Learning / Attention Difficulties, Addictions such as Substance, Pornography, Computer & Gaming, Personality Disorders, Poor Social Skills, Trauma, Abuse, Adoption/ Attachment Issues, Poor Decision Making, Divorce & Family Conflict, Underdeveloped Life Skills, Sexual & Gender Identity Issues, Sexual Promiscuity, Self-Harm & Autism Spectrum Disorder. Pilcrow Advisors uses an evaluation process to assess and identify the most appropriate next step.  We carefully consider all placement options and may recommend one or more of the following: Wilderness Programs, Residential Treatment, Local Programs & Professionals, Boarding Schools, Young Adult Options & Assessment & Stabilization Programs. Identifying the right placement is only the beginning of the services Pilcrow Advisors offer.  Jamie assists with the admission, enrollment and transportation process. Once a client is placed, Jamie remains involved to provide: continual collaboration and communication with professionals and families throughout the client’s placement as well as transitional support following treatment.

The largest part of my work involves meeting individuals who are said to exhibit "difficult behaviors." Most of these individuals exhibit difficult behaviors because they are misunderstood and/or because they are living lives that don't make sense. Often they are lonely; or powerless; or without joy. Often they are devalued by others; or they lack the kinds of educational experiences that most of us take for granted. Too often their troubling behaviors are the result of an illness; or even a delayed response to traumatic events.You might say their behaviors are "messages" which can tell us important things about their lives. In the recent past; I have provided consultation and training for individuals; families and professionals throughout the United States; Canada; Puerto Rico; England; Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. I have worked with people in a variety of settings; including: home and professionally-staffed residential settings; schools; supported competitive job sites; sheltered workshops; and day activity programs.
